Gambling Lived Experience Network (GLEN) are currently looking to recruit a permanent CEO. This is a full-time role, circa £75k per annum, and will be remote/flexibly based with UK-wide travel as required.
The new CEO will join GLEN at a pivotal time for the charity. Changes to how Gambling Harms are both publicly seen and commissioned/financed under the new statutory levy system are acting to make this a time of great opportunity but also one of unparalleled need for Lived Experience led insight, leadership and involvement in an ever expanding range of stakeholder activities and evolving social responsibilities.
GLEN are a Lived Experience formed and staffed network charity which seeks to give a meaningful voice to all who have experienced gambling harms, or who share our vision of a society protected and free from gambling related harms. As an independent charity currently sitting outside of the Levy funding structure we are uniquely positioned to give objective, impartial and experientially informed subject expertise and concept leadership to sector stakeholders around all aspects of addressing, preventing and mitigating the prevalence and impacts of harmful gambling.
We have never taken direct gambling industry funding and to retain the integrity of our offer to the community we serve we never will.
At the start of 2026 we committed ourselves to embarking on a root-and-branch redesign and transformation in order to prepare ourselves to better be able to occupy what we could see was going to be a vitally important and extremely necessary role in the future gambling harms space. Becoming the independent and unashamedly goal-focused platform voice for all Lived Experience around Gambling Harms.
That we are now in the position to offer a permanent CEO role to the right candidate is demonstration of the progress which we have successfully made towards achieving that ambition in what has been a short space of time.
The new CEO will join an organisation which has undergone complete governance transformation and has a newly appointed, enthused and talented board of trustees.
This will not be an easy job. The scale of the challenges facing our sector is unprecedented, and the scope of the ambition we have set ourselves fully matches this. The successful candidate will not just be someone able to lead GLEN but someone with the capacity and vision to provide unwavering leadership and sage-but-firm advice to a whole sector during a period of formative transformation.
If the term “herding cats” is familiar to you then that gives some idea to the likely challenges which we see our new CEO having to overcome.
Perhaps of all the organisations and stakeholders now involved in the gambling harms sector we see GLEN as having the greatest and most focused role to play. That being to keep the rapidly emerging system around gambling harms firmly laser-focused on its ultimate shared goal – that of supporting and ensuring the wellbeing and protection of real-life people, real-life families and real-life communities at risk of exposure to gambling harms.
Lack of existing Lived Experience around gambling harms – whether from your own previous gambling or as someone impacted by another’s gambling – is not a barrier to applying, trust us, we already have plenty of that to share with the new CEO, but full appreciation of the vital importance of meaningfully involving Lived Experience in all system components making up the gambling harms sector is a non-negotiable requirement.
We are Lived Experience, we need a CEO who believes in us.
