University of Nottingham – PhD Research into Gambling Advertising

Posted 20/09/2024     Closing Date: TBA

Eleanor – a PhD student at the University of Nottingham is looking for volunteers with lived experience of harmful gambling to assist her in a research project.

The research focuses on how gambling advertisements use metaphor and other visual/linguistic techniques to influence audiences.

She is keen to hear from individuals with lived experience of gambling-related harms, and would like to invite them to participate in focus groups where she would present some of the adverts to gather feedback on how they interpret the messages within the commercials. These insights will be essential in helping her understanding the impact that gambling adverts, that work to sanitise and subtly promote gambling, have on how people perceive and understand this widely accepted but risky activity.

This is a voluntary role and may not be suitable for individuals who may still find themselves being triggered by gambling advertising.

If you would like to know more, or wish to offer to help with this research then please email info@glenetwork.org with the subject “Phd Research” and we will pass your details on to her.
